El Cucuy originates from Mexican legend of a creature that comes in the night and kidnaps misbehaving children while they sleep. The story goes that a creature with is almost human-like but with red eyes and with no actual physical description as to what it looks like because no one who has seen El Cucuy has lived to give a description of what this creature looks like.

The myth has also been told as El Cucuy being a monster that is said to be a sign of “bad things to come”. El Cucuy is the “Anti-Christ” and when he makes his appearance on earth it is a sign of the end of the world. El Cucuy coming from the depths of hell is a sign of how bad the world has come for him to come as he gains power the more that people sin, thus the story told to children to stop misbehaving or El Cucuy will come and get them.

El Cucuy is based off of the archetype of the villain, as it is a character in every story that brings about despair, trouble, pain, etc. El Cucuy is a manifestation of the darkest parts of the human psyche as it is a myth that is meant to not only scare children into behaving in the fear of being taken in the night, it is a story that is told by adults to other adults to make sure that they too behave out of fear of bring about the apocalypse and end all that is humanity and what we know of it.
